In each of our services, we have the opportunity to pray individually, surrounded by community, accessing the still, small voice inside. Last Shabbat, we were honored to welcome CBST member, flutist Simon Dratfield, to the bimah. Simon and Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig shared Erik Satie’s hauntingly beautiful “Gymnopedie No. 1” following the silent Amidah.

First published in 1888, and named for an ancient Greek rite enacted by groups of naked youths, this delicate, dream-like piece has been used as the soundtrack for various films, always inspiring an atmosphere of timelessness and meditation.

We seamlessly transitioned into a prayer for peace, “Oseh Shalom,” by Nurit Hirsh, echoing Satie’s lilting melody and repetitive rhythms.
