Job description: Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a business-minded, entrepreneurial news editor to join our Live Journalism team. The right candidate will work across the CEO Council series, the Journal’s flagship live journalism franchise.
Live Journalism at the Journal connects our readers with a diverse slate of top industry leaders, thinkers and newsmakers, while igniting conversation across communities online. We currently find ourselves in a period of growth and transformation for WSJ Live Journalism, as the team has moved from producing in-person conferences and festivals to a full calendar of hybrid events.
Working with our lead CEO Council editor and the head of live journalism and special content, you will help shape our approach in this new multichannel medium: specifically how we plan, program and cover our premier series across the Journal’s platforms.
This position will report to the Head of Live Journalism and Special Content and will be based in our New York office.
You will:
Develop ideas for rich and engaging on-stage conversations that cover a wide range of business topics.
Source, build and manage relationships with a diverse set of business, finance, cultural and political leaders featured at Journal events.
Lead some conversations that take place on the stage are Journal events.
Drive ways to continue conversations post-event: working across the newsroom to package event coverage in print, online, newsletters, video, audio and social media.
You have:
Extensive experience building franchises, with a track record of achieving goals and an emphasis on originality and exclusivity.
Deep knowledge of the global business community, with a healthy track record of relationships with leaders in that space.
A strong sense for the key topics business leaders are interested in.
A rich level of creativity, entrepreneurship and organization in equal measure.
A background and/or interest in business news content and non-traditional event management (Note: this role will not be responsible for event production-we have a dedicated team at Dow Jones who we partner with to build our events)
An ability to juggle multiple priorities in a calm, collected and organized manner during fast moving live event situations.
A love for research and reporting, with a drive for producing exclusive and original content for the Journal audience.
Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
Ideally, experience producing and understanding live events is a plus.
The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work.
