The Compliance Counsel role is a member of the Dow Jones Legal Department reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Compliance and can be based in London, New York or New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance Responsibilities –
Ensure functional operation of compliance with associated regulations (globally) pertaining to commodities benchmarks.
Supervise annual external audit to verify compliance with IOSCO’s Principals for Price Reporting Agencies.
Supervise annual benchmark methodology review and policy assessment and development, implementation, planning and impact analysis, decision support to management and internal stakeholder engagement.
Ensure proper implementation of policies and procedures, maintain a culture of accountability and compliance with the editorial team through annual compliance workshops.
Run internal audits, systems checks and process reviews to ensure compliance with documented policies and procedures.
Monitor relevant regulatory developments and propose responses.
Additional Compliance Responsibilities –
Assist with annual Code of Conduct questionnaire process including follow-up with specific responses.
Assist with annual Trading Guidelines certification process including follow-up with specific responses.
Conduct annual review and maintenance of compliance policies partnering with business stakeholders such as Finance and HR.
Assist with third party due diligence via RiskCenter, the Dow Jones third party risk management platform.
Review, update and advise on various contractual provisions addressing compliance risk.
Conduct modern slavery risk assessments for third parties in high-risk vendor categories.
Advise on responses to customer due diligence inquiries via RFPs/RFIs.
Assist with monthly and quarterly compliance monitoring review to ensure compliance with various laws and policies such as anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, T&E and competition.
Conduct periodic compliance training for various business groups.
Assist with third party sanctions monitoring.
Assist with regulatory monitoring of consumer protections laws (e.g., automatic renewal, online cancellation).
Proactively identify areas of compliance risk and strategies to mitigate such risk.
Required Skills and Preferred Experience
J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) with membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
3+ years of experience, including in-house and/or law firm.
Experience delivering practical advice under pressure and prioritizing work.
Familiarity with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and U.K. Bribery Act.
Excellent written communication skills and inter-personal skills.
Superior organizational skills with attention to detail.
High level of initiative and self-motivation, with an ability to work in a collaborative and congenial team environment and also independently.
Superior work ethic and dedication to ethics and professional responsibility.
