Responsibilities

Virtual ExpressCare

The Virtual ExpressCare is a 24/7 telehealth service that offers a simple and easy way for our patients to access high-quality and affordable virtual urgent care services. The ability to meet patients where they are will allow NYC Health + Hospitals to deliver safe, competent care outside of the four walls of hospitals and health centers. Available through the website (ExpressCare.nyc) or through phone, vEC will serve as a major outlet of growth for NYC Health + Hospitals.

Clinical Job Responsibilities and Benefits:

  • Provide direct patient care for Virtual ExpressCare service with an Urgent Care scope of practice. Patient care will be conducted through audio-visual and audio-only mediums.
  • Responds to visits from a variety of entry points, including 911 dispatch, 911 ambulances, Department of Homeless Services, other NYC clientele, and the general NYC population.
  • Responsible to evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, work with ExpressCare agents to coordinate follow-up care instructions, which may include orders for primary or specialty care and prescriptions, and to complete all clinical documentation. Additionally, PA’s expected to consult with supervising medical provider when appropriate.
  • Remote work with flexible hours.
  • Ability to use modern technology and join a team focused on changing healthcare delivery.

Clinical Requirements:

  • Provide care under supervision of the Director of Service and Attending Physicians, performs diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Successful completion of an approved physician assistant program and New York State Physician Assistant License.
  • NCCPA board certification or eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification BLS/CPR.
  • Attends orientation training and quarterly training refreshers, including emerging telehealth clinical evaluation tools and skills. Participates in ongoing clinical quality assurance review and performance improvement.
  • Maintain all appropriate approvals to prescribe and dispense drugs under applicable New York State and federal law.
  • Experience and comfort treating both pediatric and adult patient populations (all ages).

Telecommuting and Operational Requirements:

  • Must have professional etiquette and attire in a well-lit, private space without interruptions.
  • Providers are representing NYC Health + Hospitals while on shift to the service and attire and background only show NYC Health + Hospitals branding.
  • Must be available to immediately answer all calls during the shift.
  • Have secure broadband Internet access with a connection sufficient to stream high-definition content.
  • Have access to a mobile device with ability to receive phone and SMS messages for IT support and on-shift coordination.
  • While working offsite must be able to log into NYC Health + Hospitals VPN and Epic.
  • Complete required Epic training and can access ExpressCare module
  • Open-minded to using technology.

Qualifications

  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Physician Assistant
  • Current certification to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the New York State Department of Education
  • Qualified by experience and demonstrated competency as determined by the governing state.
