Job description: Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for appointment you will be required to pass a Civil Service language
examination to demonstrate proficiency in Chinese language at a level that will ensure your ability to perform the duties of the position.

52.7 NON-COMPETITIVE PROMOTION (NCP) QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service as Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language), Labor Standards Investigator, Labor Standards Investigator (Chinese Language), Labor Standards Investigator (Korean Language), or Labor Standards Investigator (Spanish Language).
In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, if three or fewer qualified Department of Labor Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language), Labor Standards Investigator, Labor Standards Investigator (Chinese Language), Labor Standards Investigator (Korean Language), or Labor Standards Investigator (Spanish Language) respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified candidates without further examination

PROVISIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: One year of permanent, or contingent permanent experience as Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language), Labor Standards Investigator, Labor Standards Investigator (Chinese Language), Labor Standards Investigator (Korean Language), or Labor Standards Investigator (Spanish Language).
FINGERPRINTING/BACKGROUND CHECK: Some positions may require a fingerprint/background check. If the position you applied for requires fingerprinting, you will be advised at the time of your interview. Duties Description Standard Duties:
As an Investigative Officer 2 (LS) (CL) under the general direction of an Investigative Officer 3 in Labor Standards, the incumbent will:
- Be assigned sensitive or complex investigations dealing with State labor laws governing minimum wages, child labor, hours of work, wage payment, employment agency operation, industrial homework, farm labor and the like which requires a greater knowledge and interpretation of the agency’s laws, rules, or regulations.
- Supervise Investigative Officers 1; schedules and assigns cases to subordinate staff based on program priorities and individual workloads and abilities.
- Plans scope and method of investigation, and coordinates field activities of assigned staff.
- Provides guidance and assistance to Investigative Officers in the gathering and evaluation of information and evidence and the overall conduct of their investigation.
- Trains and instructs staff on investigative techniques, preparation of reports, and changes in agency policy and procedures.
- Prepares periodic status reports for supervisory and executive staff.
- May personally investigate difficult and sensitive investigations and participate in interagency taskforces.

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position

Expected salary: $67897 – 86140 per year
