In the event that there is no valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following qualifications may be provisionally appointed:

Open to Current State Employees:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State AND have two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Health Care Surveyor 1 (Nursing), Health Services Nurse, or in a professional nursing title allocated to Grade 16 or higher.

OR

Open-Competitive:
You must have a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State AND have two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience AND meet one of the following requirements:

Either 1. a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing, nursing administration, the biological sciences, public health, epidemiology, public administration in a health care area, health care administration, or hospital services administration;

Or 2. two additional years of nursing experience in which 50% of your time was spent in the administration, development, or implementation of an infection control program;

Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.

Please note: Continued employment as an Infection Control Nurse is dependent upon maintenance of permanent licensure and registration. Loss of nursing licensure and/or current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State will result in action to remove you from the position.

You must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.

Duties Description As an Infection Control Nurse, you would have responsibility for an infection control and prevention program, ensuring its adherence to established infection control standards and policies, and developing an infection control risk assessment and plan, in addition to education programs for patients and staff. You would report on the effectiveness of the program by gathering, analyzing, and presenting infection data, facts, and trends to stakeholders. You would serve in a liaison capacity between all departments and Infection Control Committees or hospital departments responsible for infection control and prevention services.

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

Additional Comments:
The posted hiring rate reflects the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 19 ($64589), an Increased Hiring Salary ($3,651), Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000), and Downstate Adjustment ($3,026). The posted job rate reflects the sum of the statutory job rate for PS&T Grade 19 ($82,036), Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000), and Downstate Adjustment ($3,026).
