THE POSITION

RUBENSTEIN is seeking a talented, motivated and versatile Business Development Strategist to support the firm’s business development function. This role is focused on new business proposal development – from leading pitches to articulating strategies for written proposals – across all sectors and supporting in-depth brand and messaging research and workshops. This person will also be responsible for various supplemental presentations, reports, and project management.

RUBENSTEIN’s clientele includes global corporations, financial services firms, technology companies, educational and cultural institutions, law firms, health care providers, not-for-profit organizations, real estate companies, media and entertainment companies, business executives and public figures.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is currently remote, and will eventually be located within our New York City office.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Overview

The Business Development Strategist is a smart business writer who can adapt to style, master a variety of subjects, and convey both essence and details while sustaining the uniformity and tone of our existing messaging. They will additionally support new business proposals by conducting media and competitive landscape research, identifying trends in particular sectors, creating templates for research reporting, and drafting research reports and media analysis.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Capture and distill communication strategies and ideas into succinct and resonant prose that adopts the tone and ethos of the RUBENSTEIN brand
  • Participate in and lead client pitches across sectors, requiring a strong understanding of internal firm capabilities and experience, as well as clients’ industry and business
  • Collaborate with team members, account executives, and senior management to create and edit proposals; continuously cultivate effective working relationships with our internal teams
  • Develop, and maintain where necessary, client communications, proposals, executive bios, case studies, oral presentations, and other external and internal documents
  • Review proposals to ensure compliance with RFP requirements; identify potential concerns or challenges; review and edit drafts for readability, clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, sentence structure, and formatting
  • Conduct research on a variety of sectors and organizations via traditional methods, media coverage, and digital platforms; draft research summaries in clear, concise prose and develop digital analytics dashboards with summaries of key insights

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong writing skills including the ability to communicate ideas clearly, compellingly, and simply in both written and verbal formats
  • Understanding of the RFP process, including interpreting, organizing, and managing RFP responses, components, and compliance
  • Able to handle multiple priorities with a strong sense of urgency and an eye for detail under tight and shifting time pressures; can fluidly pivot to address pressing matters at a moment’s notice
  • Experience conducting in-depth research and willingness to hone expertise in different traditional and digital research platforms
  • Exhibits initiative and the drive to succeed; creative and energetic personality; understands the importance of an iterative process
  • Well-organized, adaptable, versatile, and able to take verbal direction quickly and accurately
  • Able to synthesize information into a concise format and extract the most significant information and action items
  • Demonstrated skill and discretion in handling C-suite issues and executive positioning
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Professional presence and the proven ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of staff and management
  • News savvy and up-to-date on current events and emerging digital trends

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • College degree preferred – focus in Communications, Journalism, Business, Research, English or a related field is ideal
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in business development, public relations, marketing and/or branding, research, and/or communications, demonstrating a range of styles and formats, is required
