Responsibilities
- Will participate in our Women’s Option clinic, including performing intakes or any surgical procedures.
- Elicit a detailed and accurate medical history, perform a complete physical examination and record all pertinent data.
- Perform and/or interpret and/or order routine diagnostic studies including routine laboratory procedures, common radiological studies, and EKG tracings.
- Inform the supervising physician of all changes in the patients conditions and pertinent diagnostic results.
- Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, nasogastric and urinary catheterization, and insertion of intravenous lines.
- Under the direction of physician, performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing.
- Completes pre-op tasks.
- Perform patient rounds, collect data and write pertinent progress notes on charts.
- Refers to appropriate sub-specialty consultants.
- Counsels patients regarding physical and mental health, as well as provides patient information on nutrition, health promotion, pertinent health education and, if needed, continued care.
- Develop management plans in accordance with established protocols in conjunction with the attending physician.
- Works collaboratively with representatives from dietary, nursing, respiratory, social services and other patient care/support service departments.
Qualifications
- Current NYS Physician Assistant License
- Current certification issued by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
- Current BLS (basic life support) certification
- Current ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) certification
- In addition, must have proven ability to work in a team environment and must be able to interact with patients and their families in a manner that instills confidence and facilitates communication.
