Job description: Job Description:
Design at the Investment Banking Division (IBD)
The IBD team works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an IPO, we handle projects that help a diverse range of clients achieve major milestones.
Designers and engineers on the IBD team work together to build the best systems and solutions possible to make these achievements a reality. The products we support present unique and sophisticated challenges not often found in other businesses. As such, our environment relies on thoughtful strategic thinkers to push the boundaries of what we build and how we build.
Our designers believe that great design shouldn’t be reserved for consumer products and we believe in the impact design can make on enterprise software and the tools our business runs on every day.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced design leader to lead the design practice and strategy across our digital product ecosystem in Investment Banking – primarily, the complex internal financial systems our bankers rely on every day.
This role will play a pivotal role in driving business impact through design advocacy, strategy, vision, and education across all our teams and products in Investment Banking. They will bring a design lens to business conversations, and help the organization interpret how and why a design decision can impact the business.
The ideal candidate for this role knows how to think big and start small – both understanding how to lead the design team to a thoughtful north star, but also how to lead our product teams through a phased approach. You are someone who can articulate the the difference between a design concept and a design system, Interaction Design vs. Service Design vs. Visual Design, and can effectively communicate those distinctions across the organization, senior to junior.
Mostly, you genuinely care about creating thoughtful, modern digital products for our bankers. You hold a high bar for quality, and you foster an inclusive and intentional design environment that drives growth to the business and the design team members.

- Steer high-level discussions with Product Managers and Tech Leads to frame how design should (or shouldn’t) be considered in their products.
- Put in place repeatable processes to incorporate design at the right times and with the right checks and balances
- Form relationships with business stakeholders and create opportunities to work with those stakeholders through discovery and design activities across the business
- Oversee the design team and design leads. Monitor the quality and consistency of the design deliverables
- Manage the workload of a team of designers, and be comfortable negotiating the right engagements to work on to drive change. Estimate design LOE, timelines, and dependencies and be able to articulate those details back to senior leadership.
- Manage the growth of the design team’s skillsets, knowing when to push and when to pull back to result in a healthy balance for their respective career tracks
- Recruit design talent at all levels and be comfortable managing a certain level of design ops to ensure the team has the infrastructure necessary to succeed
- Oversee the design system and ensure it is maintained and supported as a foundation for the design team to build upon
- Utilize and improve upon our design language, interaction patterns, component set, and grid system to build consistency, reusability, and scalability
- Contribute to the ongoing education and impact of design within our culture
Basic Qualifications
- At least 10 years of professional experience designing digital products in a Product Design, Interaction Design, or similar role

- An understanding of design systems, their importance, and how to manage and grow them.
- High degree of expertise and comfort using Figma to collaborate with the team and with adjacent teams
- Strong understanding of system design, design thinking, service design, and visual design methods, and the ability to prioritize each at the right times
- Great presentation, storytelling, workshopping, and communication skills, and comfort presenting ideas to senior leaders
- A point-of-view on Product Design, and the willingness to ask “why” and propose alternate solutions to a problem
- A strong sense of ownership and advocacy for the end-user
