SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The scope of work to be performed by the C&S Electronic Specialist includes, but is not limited to, providing a central clearing-house point for Amtrak circuit problems. Utilize digital computer hardware and remote microprocessor-controlled equipment w provide technical and troubleshooting assistance to field personnel to correct problems. Provide interface between Amtrak, outside providers, and resellers and help determine area of responsibility as problems develop. Provide key contact point for emergency operation in the event of communication s systems failures and coordinate restoral procedures with Amtrak and outside personnel. Maintenance of remote test equipment. Coordination, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for all voice and data communications circuits and testing of new equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The technician must be familiar with the division reporting structure, possess knowledge of data and voice circuit electronics, and have general knowledge of electronics. Must be capable of learning, understanding, and maintaining Amtrak’s cable plant.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must have a valid driver’s license on the date of hire. Must be able to read and understand job information written in English. Applicants must be able to perform basic mathematical computations including fractions and decimals.
- Applicants will be required to qualify for the position by passing the electronic technician examination for communications prepared by System Communications Engineering Department.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Electronic/electrical background or education.
- Communications, electrical and/or electronic experience.
- Previous railroad experience in communications.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
