The Wall Street Journal’s Opinion section is looking for a film critic to join the Arts in Review team. Arts in Review publishes, on average, two to three film reviews each week, casting a wide net in doing so, from mainstream movies such as Hollywood blockbusters to more niche-oriented art house and foreign-language films. There is expanded coverage at the end of the year and during Oscar season. The position requires a broad knowledge of the history and language of film; an ability to closely monitor the film landscape, not only for upcoming releases but industry developments; good, clear writing and a lively prose style; a distinct critical point of view; the ability to work successfully under deadline pressure and respond well to edits.
Additional applicant requirements:
At least 10+ years of experience
Candidates should be familiar with the ideas, philosophy and principles for which The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page stands.
Flexible to do weekend/evening work as required.
High level of proficiency in writing.
The ability to work under deadline pressure.
Although you may start remotely, this position will be based in our New York office.
